Bill Nye’s Modern Antics

By Bridget Richard

Bill Nye:  A name that conjures memories of elementary celebration when your teacher would roll the school television into the classroom. And while Bill Nye the Science Guy is still a revered name in schools across the nation,  with 57 years of age under his belt, he has been active in the science and social community more than you would initially think.

Bill Nye was recently on this season’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Bill Nye was a contestant, partnered with professional dancer Tyne Stecklein. They were the third couple to be eliminated from the competition two weeks ago, when Nye performed on an injured leg because he had torn a ligament in his performance the week prior. However, he is not letting the injury get the best of him. In an interview with Kevin Fallon for The Daily Beast after his DWTS elimination, Nye was asked about what’s next to come, he said: “We’re producing a documentary film that everybody needs to see, not just for the quality of life from seeing one of my documentaries but for understanding the world around you. I’m also going to be on The Big Bang Theory.”

And on top of that, he has donned the classic labcoat-and bowtie look to teach again on the YouTube channel “THNKR.” Presented by NASA, Bill’s mini-series with the witty title “Why with Nye” sets out to inform people about Mission Juno, a spacecraft headed to Jupiter.

When asked about their favorite things about Bill Nye, Bellbrook junior Carolyn Ljungren said, “Growing up with Bill Nye was a huge benefit to my education, and got me thinking of learning as fun. I love to see that he is coming back into media now that I’m older, and to see what else he has to teach me. My favorite thing about him is that me made learning, for me, fun!”
