Everyone knows that Oscar selfie from the 86th Oscars, right? Ellen DeGeneres gathered some of the actors and actresses for an epic selfie and all credit has been going to Ellen. People in the picture inlcude Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Ellen DeGeneres, Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong’o, Jared Leto, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Peter Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie, and Peter Spacey. Ellen’s goal was to get the most retweets. Not only did they get the most retweets, but shortly after, the tweet crashed Twitter (Twitter was back up not too long after).
Legally, though, since Bradley Cooper was the one to capture the picture, that means he owns the picture. Ellen gave Cooper the rights to the picture when Cooper took the photo instead of her. Bloggers and TV shows are supposed to get Cooper’s consent to use the photo. Which means Cooper can make some serious cash from it, not that he needs it or anything. Congrats to Cooper.
