Bellbrook Men’s Golf Team wins third league title in school history

The Bellbrook Men’s Golf Team dominated the scorecard at the SWBL tournament.

On September 20, the Bellbrook Men’s Golf team won their third SWBL league title in school history. With an undefeated 21-0 record in league, it was no surprise the Eagles brought home the gold. Overall on the season, the team was 21-1.

With a second place finish in league last year to Oakwood, the team knew they needed to do things differently.

“Last year’s finish was rough, losing on the 5th tiebreaker at the league tournament,” head coach Jeff Scohy said. “And even though Oakwood is not on our side of the league anymore, I told the guys that the league title doesn’t count this year unless we beat Oakwood at the SWBL championship and thankfully we did by two shots.”

In the SWBL tournament, Bellbrook was the only team to shoot below a 300 in both the Buckeye and Southwestern divisions. The team shot a 299, while the second closest behind them was Oakwood with a 301 who is a member of the Buckeye division.

The Eagles dominated the Southwestern side, outshooting the second place Monroe Hornets by 65 strokes.

“It’s always a good feeling to win, especially for a SWBL title,” sophomore Aidan Caswell said. “It shows all the work we put in.”

The team consists of one freshman, five sophomores, and one junior. But a young team didn’t stop the Eagles from placing six out of seven members of the team on the All-League recognition.

“It was great to have all six of our guys receive league recognition,“ Scohy said. “I’m so proud of all of them. They have all put in a ton of work all spring, summer and during the season. It’s great to see their hard work pay off.”

The team’s third title was earned, but it was also the second title won in the last three years. With constant hard work and dedication towards big goals, the team continues to progress day by day.

“I think that the reason we have gotten so good is because we really push each other to get better,” junior and captain CJ Scohy said. “We all play in the summer together and every time someone is going to the range or to practice, they text everyone else to come too.”

“When someone is struggling, we try to help them so that they can get out of the funk,” CJ said. “But we also compete against each other which gives us some good experience for tournaments and big time events.”

The team continues to have high hopes for the seasons to come.

“It was so much fun winning my first,” freshman Brody Seitz said. “And I can’t wait to win it the next 3 years.”
