Despite the absence of dialogue, “No One Will Save You” is a fascinating film

“No One Will Save You” is a 2023 science fiction horror film found on Hulu. Its main character is a woman named Brynn who is hated and shunned by her town. When an alien invasion begins, she is forced to find a way to survive without the help of others.

The film is unique because, throughout the entire runtime, there is only a single line spoken.  Brynn lives alone and barely interacts with the other townspeople, so there is little need for dialogue. Rarely does the absence of it feel forced.

It does not feel unnaturally silent either. The sound from the environment, the interactions of people and things, and even nonverbal vocal sounds such as gasps contribute to an engaging sound design.

The plot is simple for the majority of the movie but still intriguing. A complex plot would be hard to understand without dialogue, so in this case the simplicity works in the film’s favor.

However, the ending’s complexity is where the story suffers the most. It leaves the viewer confused. Still, although the ending could be frustrating to some, there is still part of it that is intriguing. And taking a chance by making the ending so abstract is more admirable than finishing the film in a boring and predictable way.

The CGI is also not as convincing as in other films and the fake look of the aliens could interrupt the viewer’s immersion.

Overall, though, No One Will Save You is well told. It’s a story of self-forgiveness set over the backdrop of an alien invasion, making the film very interesting. It is different but not entirely in a bad way. It has a deeper message but is also suspenseful and entertaining. It may not be a masterpiece, but its uniqueness made it worth watching.
