What you need to know about upcoming Winter Sports

With the end of the fall sports season, winter sports are beginning to gear up. Open gym, weight-lifting, and practices are starting soon. But what exactly do student athletes need to know about the start of sports such as basketball and swim? Listed below are dates, times, and other basic information any student athlete interested in a winter sport would need.

Men’s  Basketball 

  • Weight lifting: Monday 3:15-4:15, Tuesday & Wednesday 4:00-5:00, Friday 4:00-5:00 (optional) 
  • Skills Training (Aux gym): Monday 4:15-5:15, Wednesday 5:30-6:30
  • Open Gym: Sunday 7:00-8:30
  • Coaches: Donnie Tate, Dan Chitty, Daniel Havener, Chad Beck & Dorian Hoover
  • Tryouts:  The first week of November, time to be determined

Women’s Basketball 

  • Open gyms: Monday 5:30-6:45, Tuesday 6:30- 8:00
  • Weight lifting: Mondays & Wednesdays 4:00-4:45
  • Coach: Jason Tincher
  • Tryouts: Monday, October 30 through Wednesday, November 1 at 3:15

Swim and Dive- Begins October 29

  • Swim and Dive Weight lifting: Monday, Wednesday & Friday at either 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. (athletes may leave when they finish the exercise)
  • Swim Practices at the DRAC: Sunday 5:00-7:00 p.m., Mondays & Wednesdays 8:30-10:30 p.m. 
  • Dive Practices at the DRAC: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 8:00-9:30 p.m.
  • All Pool Practices take place at the Dayton Raiders Aquatic Center (DRAC)

  • Swim Coaches: Rob Johnson, Karen Hulett & Zack Martin
  • Dive Coach: Nathan Meyer
