Kindness Club radiates positivity

Kindness Club is a student-run organization whose main goal is to spread positivity and encouragement throughout the community. Kindness Club partakes in a variety of helpful and fun activities for students to participate in.

“Kindness Club has done a lot,” Kindness Club organizer Amanda Newsome said. “They organize food drives, make holiday cards for children’s hospitals and senior living facilities, do clean ups around the community, take the initiative on creating peaceful spaces around the school, and help maintain the school garden.”

Kindness Club’s encouragement and positivity leave marks all throughout the Bellbrook community.

“Kindness Club does community service that can have an effect on our school such as the Golden Eagle Garden located outside our school,” junior Makayla Skinner said. “The Kindness Club also benefits our members. Community service helps people feel more connected to our community and fulfilled. A simple project like making cards for a children’s hospital can make someone feel proud of their service and a little happier.”

Recently the club ran a food drive from November 13-30. All donations and cans were donated to the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Community Support Center.

As an incentive for the participation in the food drive, the winning class with the most cans won Bill’s Donuts. The drive collected 504.11 pounds of canned goods.

Past events that Kindness Club has accomplished are: Suicide Prevention and 5K, community garden at the high school, community cleanups, fundraisers, and a Mindful Moments Space.

The Kindness Club meets once a month to determine what that month’s event will be. It is a volunteer committee who is always taking in new members.

“I would wholeheartedly encourage students to become part of the Kindness Club,” junior Alexis Jiovani said. “It’s a really low-key club that helps students gain service hours in an enjoyable way. It’s also very low commitment so it’s easy to do events whenever students have time for it, with us having one meeting a month and one service opportunity a month.”
