The yearly Game Awards, a ceremony for the best of the best of video games in 2023, happened on December 7. Awards include Best Score and Music, Best Art Direction, and Innovation in Accessibility. The most prestigious award, however, is the Game of The Year award.

This year’s nominees were

-Super Mario Bros. Wonder

-Legend of Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom

-Fortnite

-Spider-Man 2

-Alan Wake 2

-Resident Evil 4 (Remake)

-Baldur’s Gate 3

A wide selection of genres and studios are represented in the nominees chosen.

At the end of the ceremony after many guest appearances from people like acclaimed game director Hideo Kojima and Gonzo from the Muppets, the Game of the Year was awarded to Baldur’s Gate 3 for its stellar voice acting, graphics and gameplay.

Some of the other nominees, like Tears of the Kingdom, earned different awards like Best Action/Adventure.

Students at BHS voiced their own opinions about the nominees via a survey posted to the grade level Google Classrooms. More than a third of the votes went to Fortnite, making it the winner at 36%. Tears of the Kingdom earned 13.5% of the student vote and Spider-Man 2 earned 12.4%. Baldur’s Gate 3 was near the bottom, with only 6.7% voting it as Game of the Year.

You can vote for your own favorite here through December 31.
