We rate the 5 best (and worst) dressed celebs at the 2024 Emmys

by Ben Pursel

The Emmy Award Ceremony debuted in 1949 as a celebration of outstanding performers and contributors to American television. Since the 50s, the Emmys have come to popularize the red carpet–a velvety platform where celebrities show off their best looks. From fabulous to frightful, the 75th Emmy Awards saw some very unique outfits, courtesy of some of the most prestigious fashion designers from around the globe.

Best: Selena Gomez

Constructed from over 450,000 individually placed sequins, this curve-hugging sheer crimson dress by Dominican fashion mogul Oscar de la Renta set the bar extremely high for the night of looks. The flowing floral design atop a fine mesh make Gomez look as if she is Mother Nature herself.

Worst: Aubrey Plaza

More akin to a paper bag than a high fashion gown, this pale yellow dress from the 2024 Loewe Spring/Summer collection left much to be desired. The odd shape and metal rod made for a confusing viewing experience.

Best: Niecy Nash-Betts

Nash-Betts’ gorgeous black gown was an absolute 10/10. The dress, custom made by designer Greta Constantine, was made even more dramatic by highlighting the “Dahmer” star’s hourglass figure, accompanied by a pair of black velvet gloves.

Worst: Donald Glover

Glover, wearing a two piece black velvet suit with metallic embroidery by Bode, proved to us that flowers don’t make everything better! The fitted flora on top of the otherwise perfect (albeit boring) suit degraded the look from mediocre to outright tacky.

Best: Sarah Snook

Sarah Snook, actress of “Shiv,” in the Netflix original hit Succession, blew us away in her stunning scarlet Vivienne Westwood. The subtle folds of the gown construct a silhouette like an upside-down rose while the plunging neckline highlights Snook’s natural beauty in an obviously yet classy way.

Worst: Alfie Fuller

Fuller’s look left us more confused than impressed. The pink tulle tutu and pink ribbon tied in space buns make it look like a ballerina at her second-grade recital. The actress from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is either trying to make a statement or an attempt at camp–either way, the outfit fails to live up.

Best: Steven Krueger

Krueger appeared stylish in a stunning colorblock tuxedo, featuring a stark white jacket adorned with black satin lapels and pocket detailing. The look was complete with a black turtleneck and deep black trousers to match. The Yellowjackets star’s look is the very paramount of luxurious excellence when it comes to men’s red carpet couture.

Worst: Suki Waterhouse

Actress Suki Waterhouse of Daisy Jones and the Six made quite the entrance at the ceremony, donned in an ostentatious red Valentino grown that screamed excess, boasting a square apron style bodice with overly exposed sides, and exaggeratedly large bow, a drooping waistline, and a misguided dramatic ball gown skirt.

Best: Princess Poppy

Former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Princess Poppy had hands down the most stunning look of the entire night, sporting a draping green velvet puffy gown with a matching cubic purse dressed with doll heads, eyeballs, and moss. Oh, and she was painted entirely green adorned with goblin prosthetics. Take notes Alfie Fuller, this is camp done right!

Worst: Liv Hewson

Hewson’s androgynous look was certainly the most disappointing of the entire evening. The non-binary star wore an open black suit jacket with ridiculously long tails. The matching black mega bell bottom pants were ridiculously oversized and made the outfit look like that of a Cirque du Soleil performer. This outfit had the potential to be something excellent, but the execution was unfortunately saddening.
