The announcements at Bellbrook High School occur everyday at 8:05 am, at the start of the school day. The announcements consist of the Pledge of Allegiance, a daily joke, and any important information following the day or the upcoming week.
The announcements are done by three seniors: Michaela Cook, Jordan Meadows, and Lincon Bailey. The announcements provide benefits for all students.
“The pledge, birthdays, and joke of the day are a common ‘start’ to the school day,” principal David Hann said. “I think most students would rather hear their peers than an admin talk every day.”
“The announcements are a huge step for me in getting myself out into the school community more often,” Cook said. “In my sophomore and junior years, I wasn’t involved in many opportunities outside of the traditional school classes, and it was a step forward for me towards actually becoming a part of something that I hadn’t done before.”
The joke of the day is a student favorite. It provides a good laugh to start the day off. “My favorite part is just doing the jokes,” Meadows said.
Any information that one may lack can be reported through the announcements. They share school dances, ticket information, and exam information.
“I enjoy that they always seem so happy to be doing the announcements every morning,” junior Evi Fromm said. “As someone who has never been a morning person, it is nice to hear such happy people to start my day.”
“My favorite part would most likely be the joke portion,” Cook said. “While most of them are corny or not funny at all, I have enjoyed when classmates come up to me with joke ideas that I should say on announcements. It has also been awesome to be able to advertise for different events around the school!”
