Supreme Court rules Trump stays on ballot

Monday saw an important ruling for the case against Donald Trump, the former president, that has been ongoing for the past few months. The Supreme Court ruled that Trump was allowed to stay on the ballot for the 2024 election despite his conduct on January 6, 2021.

The ruling by the Supreme Court overturned a previous ruling by the Colorado state court that Trump could not be on the 2024 primary ballot for the state. Colorado had ruled that Trump should not be allowed on the Colorado ballot because of his actions during the January 6th Capitol Riot. The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision against Colorado has effectively proven that no other state can keep him off of their ballots, either.

While the decision by the justices was unanimous, the three liberal justices in the Supreme Court said that the other, conservative judges had tried to “insulate all alleged insurrectionists from future challenges to their holding office.”

Even though Trump has been allowed to run on the ballot according to this result, he still has to go through four other court cases, all for separate crimes he committed. Trump argues that he should have immunity for anything he did during the presidency, and pleads “not guilty” to all of the charges.
