This summer, from Memorial Day to July 4, the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Schools Stadium will be closed to the public for much-needed renovations. During this time, the field will get completely new turf and the track will be resurfaced.
“Many parts of the track are lacking rubber and there are holes that mess up our spikes,” junior pole vaulter and cross country runner Olin Eppers said. “This problem being fixed allows us to have a better practice experience and will allow us to hold better events when hosting other teams.”
“The plans have already been approved, and our Board of Education has approved the expenditure,” Charlie O’Dell, Athletic Director of Bellbrook High School who will be overseeing the project, said.
While the renovations are happening, sports teams such as football and soccer who start their summer conditioning early will have to use another facility until the stadium is ready.
“Our teams will need to use the grass fields during the construction period,” O’Dell said.
The field and track, however, are the only areas being renovated. Buildings like the restrooms and the concession stand will not be touched during this round of revamping the stadium.
O’Dell and the rest of the BHS athletic department are still searching for a person or corporation to buy the naming rights to the stadium. The location that used to be called Miami Valley South Stadium is now without a naming sponsor or any new sponsors on the horizon.
