This year with the number of athletes on the team exceeding 100 members, the track team is home to a diverse group of athletes.
Many members see running as their main sport. Bellbrook High School sophomore Luke Henley has been a member of the track team since his 7th grade year. Beyond track, Henley is a part of other sports such as Cross Country and the Swim and Dive team. For Henley, running is his true passion. “Running helps me relieve stress,” he said. “I also get to hang out with my friends who I met through running.”
The track team is home to many off-season athletes, as well. Junior Caitlyn Hansen runs 100 and 200-meter dash at meets. Though a valued member of the track team, Hansen’s main priority remains soccer. Being part of the track team aids her performance on the soccer field.
“Track has especially helped with my explosiveness and stamina for soccer,” Hansen said. “Since I mainly run sprints, I am constantly focusing on getting quicker and more explosive out of the blocks. This has helped me develop faster reflexes and quickness in soccer that has helped me to become a better overall athlete.”
Aside from athletics, many enjoy being on the team for the social aspect. Senior Grace Atchison competes in shot put at meets. Atchison has been part of the team for three years and loves how open the sport is. “I love that it’s a sport anyone can do,” Atchison said. “So a lot of different people do it and it’s so fun making new friends and building relationships with people I never thought I would.”
