Students see a positive change for the Spirit Committee at BHS

Four leaders of Spirit Committee include senior Lexi Holding, junior Alexis Knight, sophomore Shelby Miller, and senior Ava Praeter. They promoted Neon Day for one of the football home games.

Librarian Amanda Brenner and French teacher Mrs. Krumheuer created a new environment for the Spirit  Committee, which is a group at Bellbrook High School that allows students from each grade level to contribute their creativity in getting involved through sport, clubs, and other activities that go on throughout the school year. It aims to grow the opportunities for students to show their school spirit.

Both Brenner and Krumheuer felt something was missing from the student experience at BHS. “We noticed that BHS didn’t have a pep rally during the 23-24 school year and wanted to bring them back as well as provide more opportunities for students to show their spirit via additional themed spirit weeks and signage in and around the school,” they said.

The committee has many different leadership roles for the students, and it doesn’t just have seniors as the main officers. Students of each grade level were able to apply for the positions such as officers and leaders of the different subcommittees. Junior Alexi Knight and sophomore Shelby Miller are two out of the four officers for the Spirit Committee this year.

“Well, it was a tough decision as we had several amazing students interested in taking on a leadership role,” Mrs. Brenner and Mrs. Krumheuer said. “To start the process, students applied for the officer positions and expressed interest in leading the various subcommittees. Once we had their applications, we looked at the ideas that each candidate offered or other ways in which they are already involved at BHS that align with Spirit Committee initiatives.”

Lexi Holding who is one of the two senior officers who have a major responsibility is organizing this year’s fall pep rally. “As an officer, I just have to make sure that we have distributed all of the tasks evenly among everyone to make sure everything runs smoothly,” Holding said. “A big example is the pep rally.”

The officers have many goals for the revived committee. “I run The Nest,” Holding said. “So I thought it would be a nice outlet to help out with getting all the information out to our students. It’s also my senior year so I want to make sure my class along with underclassmen are spirited while also having fun.”

“I plan to keep the school spirit high for the other sports rather than mainly just football,” senior officer Ava Praeter said. “And I would like to bring more themes because it’s always refreshing to have a little fun at school.”
