In late August, former athletic trainer at Bellbrook High School Mandy Woll stepped down. Woll took on a new athletic training position at Milford High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With Woll’s withdrawal, the school welcomed a new athletic trainer, Mason Cooksey. This is Cooksey’s first full time position.
“I started working for Premier Health in June of 2024 as a floating athletic trainer until the position at Bellbrook opened up,” Cooksey said.
“I attended Cedarville University in the fall of 2019 and graduated May of 2024,” Cooksey said. “After 5 years I graduated with my undergrad in sports medicine and my masters’ in athletic training.”
At Premier Health, Angela Stahl, a previous athletic trainer at Bellbrook High School, was a role model for Cooksey.
“She was a mentor to me when I was still a student and she loved to talk about the amazing experience she had at Bellbrook,” Cooksey said. “I knew it would be a good school to work at and I was thrilled when the position became vacant!”
Cooksey’s love and enthusiasm for athletics wasn’t a surprise, as he was involved in soccer growing up as a kid.
“Growing up, my life was all about soccer and I dreamed of playing at a D1 university,” Cooksey said. “Unfortunately, injuries held me back most of my high school career, but that’s how I found athletic training. I love to help kids stay healthy and pursue their athletic ambitions without injuries weighing them down.”
Cooksey is still involved in soccer and plays in his free time. “Being a soccer enthusiast means I always love watching the sport,” Cooksey said.
He looks forward to helping all Bellbrook athletes achieve their goals. “The athletes I prefer to work with are those who communicate with me and trust my decisions are in their best interest,” Cooksey said.
