Class of 2028 experiences high school

This year Bellbrook High School welcomed the class of 2028. BHS is a five star rated school. There are some helpful opportunities for freshmen. For example, during freshman orientation, they are provided a tour of the school by upperclassmen. They also get to walk their schedules.

Students thought that freshman orientation was helpful. They said that they did not get lost on the first day of school.

Most freshmen are enjoying their time here at BHS so far. “I like it a lot better than the middle school,” freshman Hannah Anderson said. “We have a lot more freedom and there’s more class options.”

Every week BHS has block days on Wednesdays and Thursdays, where each day students have half of their eight classes. On Wednesdays they attend odd-numbered periods along with a mentor. This mentor acts as a second 30 minute study hall. Then on Thursdays students attend their remaining four even-numbered classes, along with mentor and lunch.

Freshmen are developing their own opinions of the different schedules. “Yeah, I do like block days,” freshman Evan Krolikowski said. “It gives me something to break up the week.”

“I like Thursday block but not Wednesday block,” Anderson said. “I only have like two real classes because on Thursdays I have Supportive Peers and study hall so it makes Thursdays better.”

“World Studies with Mr. Fromm is my favorite,” Anderson said. “My favorite class is Science,” Krolikowski said. “Because I have friends in that class and Mrs. Riggs is really nice.”

BHS offers two different foreign languages, including French and Spanish. Krolikowski is taking French. “I decided to take French because my sister took it and my parents both did,” Krolikowski said.

One major difference between middle and high school is there are two different lunches at BHS and they both have all four grades levels in them. Students are assigned first or second lunch. “I like having my first lunch better,” Anderson said. “Because I don’t like having to wait.”

“What lunch I have doesn’t really matter to me,” Krolikowski said. “As long as I have friends in it, it’s good.”

Freshmen are feeling good about school so far. “Right now I would rate high school, probably like an 8 out of 10,” Krolikowski said. “My classes are pretty easy right now. It’s not much different from the middle school yet and there’s a better atmosphere too. It’s pretty easy so far.”

“8 out of 10,” Anderson said, “Because school is school and it’s also better than middle school. I like that we can have classes with people outside our grade and we’re not just stuck with other freshmen.”
