How to find the right Homecoming dresses

by Katie Griffin

Homecoming season is upon us, where girls dress up in pretty dresses, go to dinner, take pictures, and dance the night away. The question is, how do the girls know what to dress in, and where do they know to go to get these amazing dresses? A couple of girls from Bellbrook high school gave their thoughts and advice on where and what they look for when it comes to Homecoming dress shopping.

Jordan Frantz, a senior at Bellbrook High School, doesn’t want to overspend on a dress she only wears once. “The past couple of years I have gotten my dresses from Windsor, Macy’s, and Dillards,” Frantz said. “I notice that they tend to be very cute and on the cheaper side.”

Senior Samantha Schultz agrees. “I have gotten my dresses mostly from Windsor or Von Maur,” Schultz said. “I went there because I like most of their dresses and it’s cheaper than places like Pure Couture.”

Both Frantz and Schultz agreed that Windsor was a good place to shop for a good price range, but also said that there are other places like Pure Couture that are a little more expensive and are also a great place for a more unique look.

Frantz recommends an open mind to shopping and not planning ahead.  “I always go on saying I want certain colors,” Frantz said. “But I always end up buying the dress that fits me the best. However, I really love blues and greens.”

Having a plan might work for some, though. “I usually plan ahead, and once I find a dress I find all of my accessories immediately,” senior Summer Bixler said.

Do you go for the strapless cut look, form-fitting dresses or flowy dresses with a little poof? The seniors all agreed on the same thing. “I would not really recommend strapless because in my opinion it’s easier to dance with the straps, but I think it just depends on the dress and the person wearing the dress,” Schultz said.

“I personally like tight fitting dresses because they’re very flattering on everyone,” Bixler said.
