Earning second place at sectionals and headed to districts for the second year in a row, the women’s golf team is a force to be reckoned with. As a team, they have won all of their matches, gotten first in one-third of their invitationals, won all three league matches, and have four out of six golfers on SWBL’s first team.

“This season has been one of our best yet,” junior Ainsley Gregory said. Gregory placed first individually in all three of her SWBL matches, won SWBL Player of the Year, and placed first at sectionals.

It was just three years ago when the girls got their own team. “A very limited amount of people know about the women’s golf team,” junior Alexi Knight said. “A lot of people don’t see golf as a women’s sport.”

Gregory agrees that few people know about women’s golf. “The sport and the atmosphere around it is foreign to them,” she said.

With a minimum team requirement of four golfers, and only two remaining after this year’s seniors graduate, the girls’ team will take as many new members as they can get. “A lot of people in women’s golf are just starting,” Knight said. “Everyone is new to the sport so I would encourage girls to come out for the golf team.”

“Golf is something you can do for most of your life,” Gregory said. “It is great to get into and start because it’s a super fun sport and environment.”

“You can get a lot more recognition being a girl playing in a more male-dominated field,” Schleich said.

The team atmosphere is what the golfers want others to know about. “We have all become really good friends, and have the best time playing golf,” Gregory said. “We are always laughing and cracking jokes, which creates a very fun environment and team atmosphere.”

“This team is the most fun group I have ever been a part of,” Schleich said.
