Freshmen reflect on their first semester of high school

With the spring semester of Bellbrook High School well underway, freshmen of the school have experienced the first few months of high school. Freshmen students have opinions on how high school feels in comparison to middle school when it comes to work.

“The teachers said it would be really hard, but I think it’s easier because I have more time to do the work,” Hayden Puterbaugh said. As a result, the school work is “way easier.” At the high school, all students are assigned a study hall in their eight-period day, and they have extended time to work during the block periods Wednesday and Thursday.

“It feels the same,” said freshman Carsen Caldwell on the difficulty of school work.  Caldwell is taking advanced English this year. “We’re getting sections of text and going really in-depth, when we didn’t do that in middle school.”

“High school feels a little more serious, and I’m taking my classes more serious too,” said Caldwell. Puterbaugh shares a similar outlook. “I did really bad in middle school grade-wise,” Puterbaugh said. “But now I do a lot better because I feel like it actually matters.”
