Jada Weiss makes Bellbrook history

Bellbrook High School senior Jada Weiss took home the gold at this year’s OHSAA Ohio Girls Wrestling Tournament.

“I started wrestling in the 7th grade, mainly because of my brothers,” Weiss said. “They started wrestling very young, and I would attend all of their tournaments. Eventually, after watching for so long, I became interested and started wrestling.”

During her high school career at BHS, Weiss has been a stand-out member of the women’s wrestling team and qualified for state twice.

“Going into this season, I always had the goal of winning state; however, after my performance at state last season I did not think that it was possible to win state,” Weiss said.

“Going into my final match there were a lot of nerves, not only was this match the finals where everyone was watching, but it also was the final match of my high school career,” Weiss said.

“During the match, I kind of zoned out, even if my coaches were yelling or other people were I couldn’t really hear them because when you are wrestling a lot of noise tends to go away.

“After the match, it was really a surreal feeling, knowing that I had reached my goal that I had worked all season long for was truly an incomparable feeling. It was also amazing that all the people who were there supporting me, including my family, friends, coaches, and teammates, were able to share that experience with me as well,” Weiss said.

Weiss is set to attend Otterbein University next year and is committed to their wrestling program.

“Next year, I am looking forward to a new part of my wrestling career. There are a lot of amazing girls that are coming into the program, as well as ones that are already into the program,” Weiss said. “I am really excited to work with my new team and coaches and create lots of memories and learn together.”

Many people, including senior Emme Volmer, went online to watch Jada’s final match.

“Watching the final match was so exciting! I knew how hard Jada had worked to make it to that point, so it was so fulfilling seeing her end her senior season as a state champ!” Volmer said. “My family wanted to go in person, but we were driving home from a soccer game in Kentucky. We had the match connected to Bluetooth so even my mom driving could listen.  It was worth every penny to watch the match live online!!”
