This year’s track team is running off to a great start. It is one of the biggest Bellbrook High School has had yet.
“We actually have a lot of new people this year, especially seniors and it’s great!” Connor Spriggs, a BHS senior, said.
“I have heard a lot of people say that they really enjoy the sport, like my friend Katie Griffin,” Spriggs said. “We all told her to do track since freshman year and she finally listened to us and did it her senior year. Now she keeps on telling us that she should’ve done this sooner.”
In a couple meets, there were a total of 47 new personal records (PR).
“This is my first year doing pole vault because I usually throw,” junior Isabella Tungol said. “And the fact that I got a 6-foot PR for my first meet is amazing. I never thought that I would enjoy pole vaulting but the people around me and the sport in general make it enjoyable.”
Senior Maddie Reed stepped in as the first-ever manager for the track team. “I thought it would be a fun opportunity to see how the sport of track works and it’s something new to do,” Reed said.
Many people are trying new things this season. “I am usually a long distance runner,” senior Makayla Skinner said. “But this year since it’s my senior year I thought I would try something new like pole vault and it’s been very fun.”
Track is opening opportunities for many athletes at BHS. “You never know what you might be good at and actually enjoy doing,” Spriggs said. “Make sure you go outside of your box and try new things, even if it is just for fun.”
