Throughout the hustle and bustle of back to school, there are events popping up each week to look forward to. There is something for everyone, including underclassmen, seniors, and even staff members.
Participation in activities such as football games, spirit days, or pep rallies builds the bonds of not only the Bellbrook community but also the high school community. “I’m a big fan of community in general and I think we have our own here at school,” sophomore English teacher Mrs. Lewis said.
“Especially when events are well-rounded, it’s not solely focused on somebody who plays a sport or only people who are academic,” Mrs. Lewis said. “It really creates a community where you’re cheering for other people, even if you have no stake in the game.”
Mrs. Lewis’s favorite back to school event is actually freshman orientation day, which happens to coincide with a teacher work day.
“We have our upperclassmen who are leading the groups and talking about school,” Mrs. Lewis said. “And you just see all the freshmen and they’re either nervous or excited and I just feel like it signifies that everybody goes through that. It’s sort of a rite of passage to be a freshman coming into high school, that nervous feeling.”
For the freshman starting high school this year, many of the events coming up are new which brings a layer of excitement.
“I’m most excited for homecoming because it’s my first dance,” freshman Mia Duvall said.
For seniors not only is there excitement for the events and privileges awarded to seniors, but also the anticipation for this year and those functions.
“Every year before this we got to [the seniors] do it and now it’s us,” senior class president Erin Secody said.
Powder Puff is the event favorite for both seniors, freshman, and even teachers.
“I think Powder Puff will be a lot of fun this year, especially since we’re seniors,” senior class vice president Roshan Patel said. “We’ve gotten to see it all three years and now it’s our turn.”
Other upcoming senior events include senior assassin. Each senior that participates will receive another participating student that they must eliminate using a water gun, in accordance to the rules set by the school administration and seniors running the game.
