Bellbrook High School Key Club introduces new leadership roles for the new school year

The 2025 graduates Zac Hansen, Connor Spriggs, Madeline Reed, and Hayden Fisher have stepped down from their positions after presiding over Key Club for the last two years. Last year, rising juniors Ahmed El Sharif and Rithik Mall and rising seniors Josiah Wolverton and Ella Bilen took charge as this year’s officers, after being voted in by the Key Club body.

El Sharif is the Key Club’s president. His role includes organizing meetings in arrangement with the Key Club advisor, Mrs. Missler, ensuring other officers are doing their jobs and members are participating.

“I saw that the club wasn’t doing much before and I wanted to change that,” El Sharif said. “We really want to increase participation this year. Without that, we’re not completing the purpose of giving back to the community.”

El Sharif hopes to partner with local food pantries, such as The Bellbrook Sugarcreek Support Center and soup kitchens, while also creating events that the whole student body can participate in. In addition, Key Club will also continue Eagle Eats, a program designed to send out take home meals for students who face food insecurity at Bell Creek Intermediate and Stephen Bell.

Mall takes the role of Key Club’s treasurer, where he budgets the member dues and allocates it to Eagle Eats and various service projects.

“We are also potentially looking at making shirts for the club,” Mall said. “So, we would have to organize the costs and how much each member would need to pay.”

Bilen serves as Key Club’s secretary. She is responsible for keeping track of attendance, posting meeting notes, and coordinating events.

“Instead of being a member and watching nobody improve the club, I thought I might as well try to be an officer,” Bilen said. “Not just for the title in college applications or resumes, but because I genuinely wanted to help the club make changes and add structure.”

The officers decided to set a 15 service hour requirement to participate within the club in hopes to add more structure and align with the National Key Club guidelines.

“We didn’t want to be in comparison to the National Honor Society, but still highlight the importance of volunteering since we are a service club,” Bilen said.

Wolverton fulfills the role as vice president, helping lead meetings, organize events, and being present within the community.

“I’m really excited for what this year has to offer, especially with some of the improvements we’ve made,” Wolverton said.
