It’s only a week away from the scariest holiday of the year, Halloween. Next Friday, the night will light up with a variety of costumes that show relative characters, themes, and stories from 2025.
This year has multiple prominent costumes dominating social media. Elphaba and Glinda are taking over costumes across all age ranges. Genies and Paddington have become the most prominent costumes for high school and college students.
“I’ve seen a lot of mermaids and fairies for girls,” senior Piper Raslich said. “The men’s costumes were mostly Joker and prisoners.”
Many use Halloween costumes as a way to step outside of their comfort zone.
“I like getting out of my comfort zone a little bit,” Spanish teacher Jenna Missler said. “It’s fun to take on a character that’s very different from my personality.”
Group costumes are another great option to pick a costume, while also matching with friends. Costumes such as Minions, Wizard of Oz characters, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears are especially popular this year.
“Group costumes always tend to be better,” Raslich said. “You’re more likely to go all out because you have people with you.”
Utilizing social media platforms like TikTok and Pinterest are great ways to find inspiration for costumes. If you’re struggling to figure out what you need for a certain costume, then these platforms have endless possibilities.
Buying these costumes can be easily done through Amazon. If you are looking for a quicker, cheaper route, thrifting can often have pieces that can suit a large variety of costumes.
