How to spend your Halloween

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to start planning how to make the most of the spooky season. From handing out candy to carving pumpkins, there are countless ways to get into the Halloween spirit.

One of the most classic ways to spend Halloween night is passing out candy with your family or friends. Whether you’re decked out in a costume or simply watching the trick-or-treaters parade by, it’s a fun way to enjoy the excitement of the evening with your loved ones.

BHS Senior Symone Costner shared that she and her mom make it a family event every year. “We pass out candy together and make homemade pizzas,” she said. “It’s one of my favorite traditions.”

Many families, like BHS teacher Michelle Mize, also enjoy celebrating at home. “We usually order pizza, have a family dinner, and do a family costume,” she said. Her house is always decorated, keeping the festive spirit alive.

For those looking to add an extra touch of creativity, carving pumpkins is a fall must-do. It’s a great activity to do with friends or family; setting them out on your front porch adds a touch of fall to your home.

Of course, not every Halloween needs to be about going out or decorating. Sometimes, the best way to spend the evening is with a scary movie marathon. Scream or Hocus Pocus are classic Halloween favorites.

Making fall desserts is another great way to celebrate the season. Fall gives some of the best classic treats, like pumpkin bread, caramel apples, or pumpkin spice cookies.

Even though Mize says her family doesn’t have any official Halloween traditions, her memories of creative family costumes make the holiday memorable every year. “One year we did a Spider-Man theme,” she said. “My youngest was Spider-Man, my daughter was Ghost-Spider, my oldest was Spider-Noir, my husband was Miles, and I was Peter Parker.”
