Bellbrook High School students raise money through Teacher Turkey

Bellbrook High School kicked off its annual tradition November 17 with the Turkey Teacher fundraiser. The event encourages students to donate money to the teacher they want to see dress up like a turkey. The teacher who collects the most donations by the end of the week wins the honor of wearing the full turkey costume for a day.

The goal of the event is to raise money for charities or clubs during the holiday season. Students can donate any amount, and every dollar goes toward supporting the charity or club chosen by the teacher.

“The process works by a list of teachers who submit their interest in participating in the event,” student government advisor Katie Bills-Tenney said. “Then freshman class officers chose five teachers who meet the best requirements in their eyes.”

The competition has created excitement throughout the halls with wanting to see their favorite teacher wearing a goofy turkey costume.

Many teachers are having different approaches for campaigning for votes like front-runner Mr Erwin who chose to donate to St. Vincent de Paul.

“Although wearing the costume would be embarrassing, I believe  St Vincent is a great cause and is in need around this time,” Erwin said. “Others  though are hoping not to be the big winner. Still, everyone agrees the event brings the school together for a good cause.”

”I hope to see Mr. Erwin in the suit because he was my favorite. Also seeing him in a turkey costume would be funny,” senior Brady Read said.

Mr. Erwin won this year’s Teacher Turkey, raising $617 for St. Vincent de Paul. Mr. Reinhart was the runner up and wore the pilgrim costume. He earned $50 for the drone teams.
