The Golden Globes held its annual awards ceremony this on Sunday, Jan. 11, featuring iconic red carpet outfits, unexpected film awardees, and fan favorite celebrities.
With the rise of popularity in podcasts, a new award was introduced: Best Podcast. The podcasts nominees included Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, Smartless, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and Up First.
Senior Kalynn Schaaf spent her evening watching the Golden Globes.
“I think adding the podcast award was a great idea since podcasts have become much more relevant,” Schaaf said. “I think it is to acknowledge podcasts because most of the time a podcast addresses current issues just like movies and television does.”
Good Hang with Amy Poehler was the winner of the Golden Globes Podcast Award. Poehler’s podcasts hold comedic interviews discussing guests careers and their everyday lives. Poehler has played a variety of acting roles in shows like Parks and Recreation, and the films Mean Girls and Inside Out.
Senior Bostyn Hillibush found the results through social media days later.
“I definitely think the Smartless guys should’ve won the podcast award,” Hillibush said. “I find them really funny on TikTok.”
Other award categories included Best Film and Best Actor in various mediums.
“The movies that I was most excited for were Wicked: For Good and Avatar: Fire and Ash,” Schaaf said. “As for television, I wasn’t expecting very much for those awards.”
“Hamnet was good, but I think that Sinners was way better,” Hillibush said. “The emotion and message the movie portrayed was an amazing piece of art.”
“I thought Cynthia Erivo did a great job in Wicked: For Good and deserved the Best Performance by a Female in Musical or Comedy,” Schaaf said.
