What to expect for this year’s Snow Ball winter formal

By Caroline Cope

Mark your calendars for Bellbrook High School’s Snow Ball winter formal on Saturday, January 31 from 7 to 10pm.

This year’s winter formal, which is being put on by HOSA, will be even more unique than years past. It will include a lip sync battle, a “dirty soda” bar, cookies, and courtyard games.

“Our HOSA advisor, Mrs. Goodwin, as well as my fellow officers, have tried to incorporate more activities such as the lip sync battle, the dirty soda bar, and courtyard games to revive this fun high school winter tradition,” said junior Ella Kapfhammer, the HOSA secretary. “The popularity of winter formal was decreasing, so HOSA took on the role of planning the dance to ensure that this event would not disappear for the many students who enjoy it.”

Last year was the first year that HOSA put on the BHS winter formal. The decorations for the 2025 Masquerade-themed winter formal were more extravagant than last year’s homecoming, so it is fair to expect the same this year. The theme this year is Snow Ball, and the decorations will feature wintery decor and a blue, white, and silver color scheme.

Last year’s winter formal included hand-crafted masks to fit the Masquerade theme.

Sophomore Rilla Brinegar attended last year’s winter formal as a freshman, but will only be helping with set up for this year’s dance.

“I’m not going this year because not many of my friends are going, and it would be freezing to wear a dress in this weather,” Brinegar said.

Despite the cold weather, winter formal attire primarily consists of cocktail length dresses in dark colors or metallics, or dress-shirts and dress-pants.

Winter formal has a reputation for having a higher attendance of underclassmen, but HOSA’s fun, new incorporations to the formal are sure to attract more students from all grade levels.

Students can buy the 2026 winter formal tickets for $15 online using the QR codes on the posters in the hallways or follow this link. The ticket profits will go to HOSA and be used for their upcoming medical competitions.

Guest forms are also available in the office if students would like to bring a high-school aged friend from another school.
