The TV series, Love Story, recaps the story of how John F. Kennedy Jr. met Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy back in the 90s. 

Bessette at the time started off at the Boston Calvin Klein retail store and quickly moved in the company to work in publicity and VIP clientele.

Bessette-Kennedy became quite successful in her career before meeting Kennedy Jr., but what really made her stand out was her iconic minimalist style. 

“The minimalism — in a way she makes it really personable, which I think is really cool and neat,” Bellbrook High School senior Allison Gerbic said. Gerbic is known for dressing well everyday at school and hopes to minor in fashion studies after high school at the University of Cincinnati. “I previously pinned a lot of photos of her on Pinterest, especially her winter ones and hadn’t realized that she was JFK Jr.’s wife, until I started the new show.”

Bessette-Kennedy chose to wear only neutrals; blacks, whites, and browns. This was in part of her original style, but stuck with it to camouflage herself from the media. Bessette-Kennedy went to the full extent by cutting the designer labels off of her clothing items. Her most popular accessories include tortoiseshell print headband, black micro sunglasses, and black loafers. 

“I love that she only wears neutrals,” Gerbic said. “I certainly have no problem with not seeing any bright colors. You can still have style by wearing basics and it’s also nice because her outfits are easy to replicate.”

Bessette-Kennedy caused a bit of controversy in her style choices, specifically the decision to not wear jewelry. 

“I don’t like it because I think jewelry adds a lot to an outfit,” Bellbrook High School senior Calle Caldwell said. “Even if it’s super simple, that to me is more classy and elegant. It gives more to her outfit and her not wearing jewelry takes that away.”

However, Gerbic differs in opinion.

“I think it is so chic,” Gerbic said. “It doesn’t annoy me because she can rock it, but I definitely don’t think I could.” 

The Love Story series has released six episodes and will release their next episode on March 13. The series will release a total of nine episodes with the final episode scheduled for March 26. Those who are interested in watching the show can stream it on Hulu and Disney Plus.
