Some Bellbrook swimmers had a successful season. They had their preliminary swims on Friday and finals on Saturday, February 28. Sophomore Michelle Dean came home with a silver and bronze medal from her events.

Dean has been swimming for most of her life and has continued to work hard to improve. “I’ve been swimming competitively since I was about seven years old,” Dean said. Because of her experience and dedication to the sport, she qualified for the state meet this year.
Coaches have played an important role in the team’s development. “My main coach, Avarie, was a huge encouragement to me and she always made sure I had the correct form for optimal performance,” junior Luken Cook said. Dean also explained that her coaches help swimmers through consistency and showing up every day for improvement.
Another important part about swimming is the community within the sport. Cook explained that the people involved in swimming contribute to the experience and the positive atmosphere, making for a supportive and encouraging environment. Swimmers cheer for teammates and competitors during meets.
Dean offered advice for students interested in swim. “I would tell them to focus on having fun and enjoying the experience,” Dean said. “Some people can get too wrapped up in their placement or times.”
