The new Super Mario Galaxy Movie makes its way to theaters on April 1. The first movie came out in 2023 and was a success in getting fans back into the Nintendo franchise. Nintendo made a new breakthrough by making the movies and releasing old games from the WII to the Nintendo Switch.
An article on Yahoo.com by Eddie Makuach mentions that the first Mario movie made $204.6 million in its first five days and $146.3 million just from the Friday to Sunday window. The first movie came out around Easter, even with the competition of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. That movie made $166 million that weekend. Even though Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice made more money in America, The Super Mario Bros Movie made $1.36 billion worldwide. That ranked it the second high-grossing movie globally, second to the Barbie movie which earned $1.44 billion.
There are predictions the money the second movie might make is $160 million on the opening weekend, and that it will beat the Barbie Movie in revenue. It is also coming out the weekend before Easter and has barely any competition, unlike the first movie. “I think it will make $2.5 billion worldwide,” senior Tyler Panstingel said.
The returning cast to voice their characters includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan Michael-Key as Toad. The newcomers to the movie are Brie Larson as Rosilina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, Luis Guzman as Wart, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
Jack Black has stated that he would love to come back and make several more Mario movies. “Jack black is the GOAT. He has such an awesome voice,” sophomore Landon Davis said.
So if you are looking for entertainment on April 1, “Go watch it when it comes out,” Panstingel said.
