New coaches join Bellbrook track team coaching staff

This year Bellbrook High School’s track staff gained five new additions just for this season. Hayden Bullock (disc and shot put), Wally Cain (sprints), Steven Johnson (distance), Ty Waters (sprints), and Stephanie Vukovich are all new additions.

Previously the track team was understaffed, making this year a lot easier on both the team and coaches. Most of the new coaches work with more of the underclassmen, helping them transition from middle school track to high school.

Waters previously coached at Miamisburg and also works at BCI as a paraprofessional. He is in his first year at Bellbrook.

“I’m working with the sprinters and I’m going to help with distance as well,” Waters said, “I do really like it here. It seems like there’s a lot of dedicated kids who want to get better here and it’s also a pretty athletic team.”

“I have Coach Waters for sprints,” freshman Kennedy Ozoude said. “He’s pretty cool. It’s different from middle school, but I like working with him. He can be funny sometimes too.”

Other members of the team in different events, like distance and throwing, work with the other new coaches.

“I mainly work with Coach Johnson,” sophomore Eddie Alyanak said. “He’s a pretty nice guy, and he’s very enthusiastic about coaching our team.”

“I’ve mostly talked to Stephanie Vukovich and I think she’s a pretty good coach,” freshman Lily Hendricks said. “She’s really nice. I was excited to see her. I haven’t had a lot of high school track experiences, but overall, I feel like she is really inclusive. Even on my first day she talked to me and initiated the conversation.”

Waters is looking forward to this year’s track season. “I think it should go well,” Waters said. “It’s still early in the season but it’ll be nice to see what happens with everything.”
