The People’s Homecoming

by Lauren Guerrero

Every year for Homecoming, we put the responsibility of making it a beautiful night to remember in the hands of a precious few. These few students and teachers are great at what they do, but what does the average Bellbrook High School student have to say about what they want in a Homecoming? What do you as the people going to the dance want to remember?

Many people chimed in on what they want at the dance. A common issue was food. As Abby Engler, a sophomore, pointed out, “I paid $15.00 to get in and you didn’t feed me.” Other people also suggested there be snacks to go along with the hours of dancing.

Another thing that quite a few people commented on was music and dancing. There was some difference in opinion about the music. Megan Betts, a junior, when asked what she liked about past Homecoming dances, said, “Good DJ and music.” Most people agree with Betts that the music in the past has been good, but some people like senior, Abbey Knupp, said she wanted “something other than rap.”

Some people also commented on dancing. When asked what he’d like to see at Homecoming this year Bailey Ray, a junior, said, “I’d rather see appropriate dancing,” and others agreed. “Actual dancing,” Engler responded to the same question.

People also had good ideas for decorations. Students mentioned bubbles, blue lights, mermaids and little mermaid stuff to name a few. Andrea Frameli, a sophomore, suggested, ”Hand out little things of bubbles.” And Libby Slauenwhite specifically suggested “Fishies.” It sounds like people want fun decorations to inspire a fun, relaxed mood at the dance.

In all, people seem excited for the dance. Freshman, Ben Slauenwhite, said he was most looking forward to “dressing up because I look awesome in a suit.” Knupp said what she wanted to see at Homecoming was, “Shelby and Mitch as homecoming king and queen. Twinning is winning.”  The students want a fun Homecoming with good music, dancing and some food. Now it is up the student government, the decorating committee and the teachers at our school to make it happen.
