Basketball for Breast Cancer

By Kate Barton and Bridget Richard

On November 15 at Bellbrook Middle School, many people gathered in support of the PINK basketball game that raised money and support for breast cancer. The PINK game is held every year in support of Gayle Joyner, a former Bellbrook resident who had breast cancer. Miami Valley Hospital and Ritter’s Frozen Custard sponsored the event. Admission was $5 and all of the money went to breast cancer research.

The basketball court was packed with supporters of all ages, most toting handmade pink signs. More signs were plastered along the walls, one with the words “I pink I can, I pink I can, I pink I can.” The Bellbrook varsity girls basketball team, led by Mr. Tincher and Mr. Eckley, carried Bellbrook to victory against Troy, 58 to 26. The PINK game held true to its name with the basketball girls’ uniforms and the JROTC’s uniforms both dyed pink in honor of their cause. Charise Thayer, a sophomore at BHS, said, “The game had a lot of support and energy.”
