Macklemore and Ryan Lewis performed The Heist concert on Wednesday night, November 7, capturing their audience’s attention with streamers, videos, and theatrical stories at the Schottenstein Center. On this Wednesday night, the arena was packed with over 6,000 people who had high expectations for this performance. The performance included most of their well-known songs such as “Can’t Hold Us,” “And We Dance” and “Thrift Shop.” Many of his songs featured other well-known singers like Mary Lambert and Ray Dalton who went on tour with him. He kept the audience involved by creating songs with them and even crowd surfing through his fans.

Macklemore songs mean much more than some cheesy lyrics. He told his story with many of his songs. He captivated his audience with his struggles that he went through when he was starting up as a rapper, in the a cappella group, Otherside. He even expressed his political opinions by singing “Same Love.” Macklemore is more than just a rapper who is fighting stereotypical judgement. Macklemore has a social agenda behind his lyrics that fight stereotypes, social wrongdoings, and discrimination.
