Movie Review: Thor 2

by Cayla Destefani

Thor: The Dark World is Marvel’s latest hit. The movie is rated PG-13 with a running time of 120 minutes. Directed by Alan Taylor, the movie brought $189.1 million to the box office and gets an average of a 4/5 rating. The critics at Rotten Tomatoes give a 65%, and the audience at Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 83%. According to IMDb the audience gives it a 7.6/10 score and critics a 54/100. Metacritic gives it a 7.8, and Rope of Silicon gives it a C-.

Most of these scores are pretty consistent and average. The critics were definitely harder on the movie than the audience, but the audience is only looking for a good show where the critics have to focus on different aspects of the movie.  It was a very entertaining movie and did a good job incorporating many characters into the plot line. There was a good balance between humor and action, but like every movie, it did have some slow spots.

The movie is about, once again, Thor trying to protect Asgard and the 9 Realms. A new threat has come upon them where a vengeful ancient race wants to extinguish all of the light in the universe and make it… wait for it… a dark world. The dark force is disturbed when Jane Foster mistakenly enters its hiding place, and it is now trying to take over. Thor and all of his friends must now fight to defeat this dark force and keep it a light world.

The movie ties in with the rest of the Marvel movies, which is a great tactic for them because if they make every movie a part of storyline then everyone will have to watch every movie. This one also has a great cliff hanger at the end, so they have definitely set themselves up for a sequel.
