New Season Begins for Girls’ Basketball

by Caroline Wong

This coming 2014-2015 basketball season is under the wing of head varsity coach Jason Tincher and assistant coaches Lynzee Johnson and Jeff Eckley. Below, senior Hannah Songer, a star varsity player, and freshman Gabby Boyer, a key player on the Junior Varsity team, share their insight on the teams this year.

Hannah Songer

Q: How does the team compare this year to your past years on the high school team?

A: Last year, we had more posts on the team. This year we are very short (in height) but that is okay. We just have to play our strengths more- we just have to play more quickly.

Q: What are you looking forward to this season?

A: Although we lost to Eaton, a huge rival, and Valley View, I am excited to play them again later on in the season and am hoping to win this time!

Q: How did you think the annual Pink game went?

A: It was a good win! We had a very fun and supportive crowd and won by 10. We beat Tecumseh 67-57.

Q: Expectations for the game against Franklin?

A: We have not played them this year, but I am looking forward to playing them on Saturday. They are a good team but I am looking forward to the challenge.

Q: What are you looking forward to this season?

A: I am looking forward to a good season. A winning season. I am also hoping to improve my playing a lot.

Q: Being a freshman, how does being on the high school basketball team compare to the middle school team?

A: It doesn’t compare- the competition is way tougher but that is okay. It forces you to improve a lot as you go.

Q: What would you say are the team’s strengths?

A: We have a really good defense this year and we are more in shape than other teams. We can really run the floor.

Q: Expectations for the game against Franklin this Saturday?

A: Saturday’s game will be great! We are going to beat Franklin!!!!!

Good luck to the girl’s basketball team this season! Be sure to come support them at Franklin High School this Saturday, December 13. JV is at noon and Varsity is at 1:15.
