Recently, Bellbrook High School’s Swim and Dive teams attended the state swimming championships. The competition is split into two sections, “There is a qualifying round and then finals,” sophomore swimmer Henry Wong explained, “for boys qualifying was on Thursday and finals on Friday,” February 27 and 28.
After qualifying for finals, Wong swam the 200 free relay along with John Sampson, Drew Breese and Cody Bybee. His team took fifth with a time of 1:30:30.
“My favorite event is the 50 free,” Wong elaborated, “because it goes by quick and there is very little time difference between the swimmers. At the state meet, you have the fastest swimmers in Ohio, so every race is down to the millisecond, which makes it really fun to watch.”
Freshman Cody Bybee became the 200 free in record time and placed 2nd, becoming the first Bellbrook student to make the podium in over 13 years. John Sampson swam the 200 IM, placing 4th while also setting a school record. The 400 free relay team took 5th place.
The boys team finished fifth overall out of over 40 teams.
For girls, Junior Holly Hulett qualified for state once again after setting a school record of 57:79 in the 100 fly. Hulett has qualified for state every year of her high school career.
