Aaron Hernandez, previous New England Patriots player, was sentenced to natural life in prison without the possibility of parole on a count of first-degree murder of his former friend, Odin Lloyd. He was also guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm. This trial has been ongoing since 2013 and a verdict was finally reached on April 15, 2015. He had pleaded not guilty, but evidence suggested that Hernandez was guilty.
Hernandez was a NFL star and originally had over a $40 million contract with the New England Patriots. Hernandez’s girlfriend’s sister was the previous girlfriend of Lloyd, and they were friends for quite a few years before the incident. Lloyd was not married nor had any children and passed away at the age of 27. Lloyd was a former football player as well, and it was somewhat of shocking news when Hernandez murdered his future brother-in-law.
Odin Lloyd’s mother claims she forgives Hernandez and that, “God will deal with the punishments of the guilty.” Hernandez does not seem to be so worried about his sentence and mouthed to his family, “It’s OK,” after receiving the verdict of the case.
