Pitch Perfect 2 led the domestic box office this past weekend making over $69 million in ticket sales according to Box Office Mojo. This is $4 million more than what the original film, Pitch Perfect, has made in its entire lifetime.
The film, directed by Elizabeth Banks, has a mainly female cast and has stars like Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. The movie follows Beca (Anna Kendrick), and her fellow Barden Bellas, one of the school’s a capella groups, in their senior year at Barden University. After a humiliating performance at Lincoln Center, the Bellas decide to join an international a capella competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status as performers.
The other notable films this weekend were Mad Max: Fury Road which made 45.4 million and Avengers: Age of Ultron which made 38.8 million. This past weekend has been the best pre-Memorial Day weekend of all time for movie sales with a whopping $183.4 million in ticket sales.
