BET Hip Hop Awards 2015

By: Harmony Takhar

The BET Hip Hop Awards of 2015 took place Saturday, October 10. The much-shorter show aired on October 13, 2015 at 8 p.m. after editing to block out profanity. It was hosted, once again, by Uncle Snoop Dogg.

The event was actually mostly performances. It had the usual cypher, where a bunch of rappers just spit a few verses. Most of the rappers are generally up-and-coming, trying to make it in the hip-hop world. The lineup for the cypher were Vince Staples, King Mez, Raury, D Joe, Joyner Lucas, Jackie Spade, Tink, Charles Hamilton, Redman, Keith Murray, Erik Sermon, Doug E. Fresh, Rahzel, and Nicole Paris.

There were quite a few performances for the show. The performances included Puff Daddy, Rich Homie Quan, iHeartMemphis, Dej Loaf, Kid Ink, Young Dro, T.I., Travis Scott, O.T. Genasis, and Future. Most of the performances were of newer songs that are hot on the hip-hop charts right now.

A special tribute was also included in this year’s awards. Ludacris came onto the stage to give a praise or two for Scarface. He’s one of the older rappers alive today. Scarface then came onto the stage to receive the ‘I am Hip Hop’ award. The rapper was arrested shortly after receiving the award though, and it was because of an outstanding warrant standing due to unpaid child support. He is, reportedly, still in jail.
