#MeToo Movement Highlights Widespread Social Problem

by Katie Giffin

After the allegations of sexual assault surfaced from numerous actresses against producer Harvey Weinstein, Alyssa Milano asked victims of sexual assault to step forward and stand with each other in a “Me Too” movement. After actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Gwyenth Paltrow, and Rose McGowan all stepped forward to accuse Weinstein of rape, over 200,000 tweets have been shared using the hashtag “MeToo.”

This movement has brought attention to the horrific reality of sexual assault in our daily lives. Not only towards women but men as well. Courtney Budney stated that the men’s #MeToo’s are “equally as important.” Charles Clymer admitted to being a victim of rape via Facebook and so has the singer and actor Javier Munoz.
