The Olympics are a time of wonder as people from around the world defy what is considered humanly possible. From setting new records in the pool, to placing bets on what soccer team will bring home the Gold medal athletes, spectators rise with the excitement.
The 2020 Summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo, and it will be the second time the games have been held there so they plan on using existing buildings. Although some buildings are being reused, other buildings need to be constructed. The Japan Times reports the gymnastics building is coming together nicely with the roof being raised on November 7, 2018. The gymnastics building has been inspired by traditional Japanese styles. The constructors have been using wood instead of steel to support the building. The wood allows for warmth and is sound proof.
Along with new buildings, five new sports will be added to the 2020 Olympics, according to the International Olympic website: baseball/softball, karate, surfing, skateboarding, and sports climbing. Each of these sports have been growing and now they will be recognized in the Olympics, bringing new competition and skill. These new sports were brought about to connect to the younger generations. These sports are growing among the youth in Japan, so the organizing committee requested that these sports be added to the Olympics.
