On October 11, NFL team Raiders’ head Coach Jon Gruden resigns after the leak of biased, sexist, and homophobic emails from his past.
According to New York Times, “Jon Gruden stepped down Monday as the coach of the Las Vegas Raiders football team hours after The New York Times detailed emails in which he had made homophobic and misogynistic remarks,” After such a career, his resignation was a devastating blow to the football league and a coach who made it to the Super Bowl.
Sources also show that the emails were sent about 10 years ago and were exposed by an investigation conducted by the NFL into workplace conduct. Moreover, they also looked at past emails and found a lot of emails sent by Gruden. “It was in those emails that investigators uncovered the disparaging comments Gruden made in a series of communications ranging from 2011 to 2018. Those emails, along with more than 600,000 more, were eventually turned over to the NFL,” said the Las-Vegas Review Journal. This specific event has ruined Gruden and built a bad rap for the Raiders.
Gruder said, “I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone.”
