Bon Jovi had vocal surgery due to a recurring injury while performing. Bon Jovi never thought he was going to be able to go on tour again. He has been slowly working to rebuild his voice. This year Jovi has decided to try and do a test tour. If this tour doesn’t go well, then this might be the last tour of his career.
TODAY reported that the 64 year old rock star was facing retirement. Bon Jovi’s unwillingness to back down has had everyone questioning if he will really be able to do it. The tour will consist of songs from their most recent album “Forever (Legendary Edition)” that came out in October 2024. Bon Jovi has been shunning questions about retirement, mentioning he knows he has a long road ahead of him while he recovers. He has been working nonstop to get back to touring.
What is the biggest obstacle Bon Jovi could face? “Whether or not he can actually physically do it,” Bellbrook fan and teacher Bob Parks said.
Should artists retire at a certain age or should they continue working for as long as they can? “Artists could burn out or fade away,” Bellbrook High School Principal and fan David Hann said. “I’ve seen some artists who perform really well at a certain age and some who don’t.”
Although Bon Jovi might not have the same vocals, he is still trying to perform. Fans have been supportive of him as he took time off to get the surgery and recover.
According to People, Bon Jovi and his band originated in 1983. Since more than 40 years of music, Bon Jovi has sold 130 million albums and won his first Grammy Award in 2006. The band today is not the original crew when Richie Sambora left in 2013 to deal with family issues and Alec John Such died in June 2022.
Some of the artists who featured in the Forever album might make a special appearance on the tour this year. These artists include Jelly Roll, Lainy Wilson, Avril Lavigne, Bruce Springsteen, and Robbie Williams. People are speculating that the singers might even sing along or have parts in the song Jovi can’t sing. “He might rely a bit on back up singers or do something to assist him more,” Parks said.
Bon Jovi coming back to touring also has its challenges. He has the pressure of meeting fans’ expectations while having to rebuild his strength and confidence. Touring requires a lot of energy and consistency which can be really difficult after not touring for so long. Teacher Aaron Fromm, who grew up in the Bon Jovi era, believes his stamina is one of the hardest things Bon Jovi could face when getting back into touring.
After decades of touring, a career built on his voice, and a surgery that could have ended it all, Bon Jovi’s return to touring isn’t a comeback. It’s a statement. Bon Jovi continues to prove where he belongs. “Very few people go out on top,” Parks said.
