As the school year comes to an end, we get ready to say goodbye to the seniors. And what better way to do that than with some events to celebrate the end of high school?
Some events feature the paint fight, which has been a long tradition, and, a newer addition, the Senior Sunrise and Sunset, which has been going on for four years now.
These aren’t the only events that occur over the year, though. First quarter included Senior Sunrise and Powderpuff, and by February there was Senior t-shirts delivery. The Kings Island trip, the stadium cookout, Senior Sunset, the paint fight, and senior spirit week are still yet to come.
And with that, these events need careful planning to ensure they go smoothly. “Bigger events like Powderpuff and Senior Sunrise, we start planning a couple months in advance,” Senior senator Gabe Woods said. “For the smaller things like Senior Sunset and Senior Spirit Week, we normally plan it and post about it a couple weeks in advance.”
“We first plan on how we want the event to happen,” Vice President Roshan Patel said. “Then, we reach out to all necessary people. Then, we advertise these events on social media and posters.”
With how many events there are throughout the year, it can be a lot for one person to handle. Senior officers work efficiently to ease that load. “We divided up the events between each officer. We all got about two to focus on,” Woods said. “Even with that, the other officers supported the one that had the event assigned to them.”
“Each of us are tasked with some different events and we run through the proper processes first,” Patel said. “Then, we bring our findings to the rest of the group and follow the next routine to let people know about them.” There are four senior officers, President Erin Secody, Vice President Patel, and two senators: Woods and Josiah Wolverton. Seniors are advised each year by teachers Debbie Franz and Nicole Kaeck.
As seniors themselves, Woods and Patel have a lot to be excited about just like any other of their peers. “I am looking forward to the cookout because all the seniors are going to all be in the same place and enjoy good food,” Patel said.
“I look forward to the paint fight the most,” Woods said. “It’s the easiest to plan, but also is known to be one of the most fun to plan.”
“Enjoy this time. The last few weeks of senior year are amazing,” Patel said. “Enjoy, reminisce, and look to the future.”
