As October progresses, students begin thinking about the well-loved fall traditions. Whether it’s a cozy night in watching a Halloween movie, or going out on the weekend to visit a haunted house, the month is jam-packed with festivities for the spooky season lovers.
From family-friendly Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas, to classic scares like Beetlejuice and Halloween, the options are endless for anyone wanting to get into the Halloween spirit.
“My family and I love to watch Hocus Pocus,” senior Ava Stephens said. “It’s a movie that all of us enjoy and it really starts to feel like fall once we watch it. Some family friendly Halloween movies seem corny and babyish but this one is always a winner.”
There’s typically a wide spread between the home bodies and the adrenaline junkies when it comes to fall activities. Senior Olive Varvel looks forward to visiting Haunt Fest at Kings Island every year. “Not only do I like the adrenaline rush, but also the backstories of each house and the creativity that goes into decorating each one,” Varvel said.
Other students, including junior Eilley Wannarka, noted that haunted houses like Brimstone, along with Kings Island Haunt Fest, are always enjoyable. They get her in the Halloween spirit. “I like Brimstone because of how long they are and that they have a DJ who plays good Halloween music,” Wannarka said. “I like to pretend to be scared so the scare actors chase me more; it makes it more fun.”
Senior Ben Burris, on the other hand, prefers nights spent with his friends. “I prefer movies,” Burris said. “When I have time to spend with my friends, I mostly want to relax, and haunted houses don’t let me do that.”
