What to wear this holiday season

by Alyssa Rogers

It’s always a little tough deciding what to wear to any holiday event. You want to look festive but when does that go too far and become tacky? Using Polyvore, I put together some simple outfits you can easily duplicate to rock your holiday parties this year.

Casual: A simple sweater and scarf can never go wrong. Add some colored pants (a deep maroon shown in this outfit) with boots and you’re good to go. I would keep the boots to either riding boots or combat boots. The Ugg-like boots may be too casual for a festive get-together. You can find any of these pieces basically at any clothing store and at any price!

Semi-Formal: There’s always those parties that you’re afraid of being too dressed up, but also afraid of being too dressed down. Here I paired a cute sweater dress with some semi-opaque tights. The shorter the sweater dress, the more opaque your tights need to be! And if it gets to the point where the sweater only covers the very bottom of your bottom, then leggings are necessary. This is no time for wardrobe malfunctions, because be honest: never once will a wardrobe malfunction go unnoticed. I added a cute long pendant necklace to add something more, but notice the accessory should in fact be a necklace and not a scarf. A scarf will dress down the look just a bit too much and turn it into a casual outfit.

Dressy: I wouldn’t call this outfit formal, but it is suitable for any holiday party that you need to get a little dressed up. I picked a plain white dress. This one in particular has some sparkle details, so I added some maroon tights to add a pop of color. Since the necklace here is detailed with black gems, a black belt was added to the waist to tie in the colors. If you use a necklace which is gold or silver, you can add a gold or silver belt! I would recommend not overdoing the jewelry. Post earrings would look perfect with this look and ensure a balance between the accessories. Also notice the necklace I chose is a short bib-like necklace. Usually the longer chain on the necklace, the more casual it will appear.
