‘7th Heaven’ Dad not acting very Holy

by Casey Murphy

Stephen Collins played the role of a loving father and pastor on the family series 7th Heaven and has reportedly been caught giving a confession to molesting three young girls on three separate occasions. The incidents reportedly happened between 1973 and 1994.

“There is a formal complaint on file and the incident is being investigated by the Manhattan Special Victims Squad,” a New York law enforcement source told FOX411. Collins was the subject of reports in October after his wife, Faye Grant, said he admitted to her he molested three underage girls. TMZ posted an audio recording that was alleged to have been made during a November 2012 therapy session involving Collins and his wife during which he made the incriminating statements.

Faye Grant had secretly recorded Collins during their therapy session that she was later going to use in the couple’s divorce proceedings.”I woke up today to learn that an extremely private recording I handed over to the authorities in 2012 per their request in connection with a criminal investigation was recently disseminated to the press…I had no involvement whatsoever with the release of the tape to the media.”

“Forty years ago, I did something terribly wrong that I deeply regret,” he says in the statement. “I have been working to atone for it ever since. I’ve decided to address these issues publicly because two months ago, various news organizations published a recording made by my then-wife, Faye Grant, during a confidential marriage therapy session in January 2012. This session was recorded without the therapist’s or my knowledge or consent.”

“He can’t face charges in the case. There are specific laws in child sexual abuse cases in New York that do allow for an extension of the statute of limitations in certain cases, but this particular allegation against Collins can’t be prosecuted,” the official added.

Collins said he has struggled over whether to apologize directly to the women who were involved. Collins commented that he had the chance to apologize to one of the girls fifteen years later and she was apparently extremely gracious. Collins has decided to not confront the other two women involved because once he confronted the first woman he was informed to not be as direct for it could open old wounds.

Following the revelation of the allegations, Collins was fired from his job on the movie Ted 2. Also Collins resigned Tuesday from his spot on the national board of the Screen Actors Guild.
