Another two years have passed and the world is readying for the next Olympic Games, PyeongChang 2018. PyeongChang County in South Korea will be hosting the 23rd Olympic Winter Games from February 9 to 25.
The first ever Winter Olympic Games took place in Chamonix, France in 1924, and Beijing will be holding the next Winter Games in 2022. The games encompass a variety of winter sports including alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding, and speedskating.
With only 66 days until the games commence, South Korea is completing its final preparations and excitement is setting in. There is a strong push from South Korea stating that the games should be an “Olympics for Peace,” with the hope that they can renew ties with North Korea. However, many other nations fear the safety of their athletes due to the tension concerning North Korea and contemplate staying at home.
Despite uncertainties, the games are full steam ahead and will proceed as planned. Tune into NBC on February 9 to watch the opening ceremony.
