How to Prep for Prom in Advance

By Abbey Raison

It is never too early to begin preparing for the day every junior and senior anticipates. This year, prom will occur on May 4, 2019. The date may seem far away now, but it will rapidly approach as the school year comes to a close. In order to avoid stressing about prom plans, begin your preparation now.

Make your appointments:

If you plan to get your hair, makeup, and nails done for prom, it is best to make appointments now. Make your nail appointment for a few days before prom, therefore giving you time on the day of to go to your hair and makeup appointments. Calling your salon as soon as possible is crucial in holding a time slot for your prom makeover. If you wait too long to schedule these appointments, you may end up creating your own up-do.

The dress:

The key to purchasing your dream dress is to buy early. With so much time before prom, stores will be fully in stock, giving you the most diverse selection of styles and sizes. Going out early ensures you will find an amazing dress off the rack.

If you plan to order your dress online, take precise measurements and order the dress as soon as possible. Ordering early will give you time to send the dress back or order a different size if it is not perfect.

Make reservations:

Dinner plans can be very stressful when you are trying to satisfy your whole prom group. Be sure to create a group chat, including everyone in the squad, to discuss where everyone would like to have dinner. Once you choose, make your reservation at least 10 days in advance. This will reassure the group that dinner reservations are taken care of. You will avoid the stress of trying to find a restaurant that is not already booked.

Best ways to save money:

If you do not want to spend a ton of money on a dress, many people sell their old prom dresses for a fraction of the cost. You can also ask a friend to borrow an old dress.

To save more, have a friend or your mom do your hair and make up. Nail appointments can be replaced with french tip press-ons from Target. This cuts down on expensive salon visits, leaving you more money in the dress or dinner budget.

Prom night will be stress-free and amazing if you prepare in advance.
